Your store’s concept has been developed, the logo has been designed, a color theme and roaster were chosen. What’s next? No store setup would be complete without at least one shelf, if not several, of packaged whole bean coffees. While many companies offer stock bag options, it seems the best way to get your product noticed is with custom-printed and -designed bags..."You need to understand your market and clearly define it," says Joy Weedon, regional manager at Pack Plus Converting. If you are a high-end, upscale retailer, your packaging should strongly reflect that, she says. And it doesn’t have to be a highly sophisticated, high-graphics bag. ...Most bag manufacturers will require an up front investment in the $10,000 range to print 35,000 customized foil-laminate bags. The cost of the bags is based more on the material than on the number of colors it features, says Joy Weedon, regional manager at Pack Plus Converting in Chino, Calif. Weedon says many retailers like to make their logo in a glossy finish, but give the rest of the bag a matte finish. "People have started moving toward that in the past year because it lets the logo pop out more," she says. "There are so many roasters out there, and you always want people to notice your bag.“When displayed on the store shelf the pouch takes up more space, and with the quad seal, they can have two bags facing out rather than one bag," Weedon says.
